Emerald Ash Borer is a nicer way of saying that you’ve got green jewel beetles eating up your trees and spreading like a wildfire. The first case of these pesky critters was spotted in St Paul, Minnesota in 2009. Since then, it has cost the residents of Minnesota millions of dollars in attempts to save our trees and get rid of this destructive insect. YTS is dedicated to this fight. We have ISA certified arborists in Minnesota qualified to both treat and remove infected ash trees so that Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) doesn’t continue to spread.
Your Exotic Beetle
While this exotic beetle may be fun to look at within a confined space at the museum, it can be devastating to see on your trees. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an exotic beetle, originating from Asia that feeds off of ash trees. Both the adults and larvae feed off of the tree, but the larvae stage typically does the most damage. It will suck all of the tree’s nutrients up, using all of its food and water, leaving the tree damaged and starving. Once infected, there is no cure. The ash tree dies within three years of infestation.
Evaluation of Emerald Ash Borer
ISA certified Arborists in Minnesota are your neighborhood and tree-friendly professionals who are going to be your best bet in the evaluation and treatment for EAB. The best way to find out if your tree is infested is to call YTS and have our ISA certified Arborists come out and take a look. We will perform an evaluation on the tree you are worried about, along with your surrounding trees. Local spreading of EAB can be within a half mile. They are transferred through firewood, wood chips, logs, etc. Once we have documented that EAB is present, we will take immediate action for a treatment plan. If gone untreated, these beetles will kill the tree they are on and fly to surrounding trees, spreading damage and death to all ash trees near it.
Unfortunately, just because you chop a tree down and cut it up, doesn’t mean Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) will die with it. These beetles can still survive and hide within the ash wood! Therefore our ISA certified arborists in Minnesota are the most useful tool for treatment of EAB. YTS offers an industry leading tree injections to eradicate EAB in its early stages.
If you are suspicious of EAB infestation, it’s important to act quickly! For more information on Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), the evaluation process, and the treatment options, call YTS in Minnesota today at (612) 331-1133 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your ash trees will thank you.
